The Nara Repository is a type of archives established to preserve political, economic and historical documents of South Korea. Succeeding to the tradition of the Tripitaka Koreana Storage House and Chunchugwan
Archives of the Joseon Dynssty, the Nara
Repository run by the South Korean govemment
is trying to restore the superior documentary
tradition of the nation which is lost in part during
the 1900s. The predecessor of the current Nara
Repository, which was reorganized in November, 2007,
is the National Recordkeeping Agency of South Korea established in August, 1969.
According to the newest National Archives Law, the major
function of the Nara Repository is to collect, preserve and study
on govemmental and private documentary materials with efficiency.
For this purpose, the Nara Repository has reorganized the roles of tis 3 storage houses in Dajeon, Busan and Seongnam. Among them, the Seongnam Storge House is in charge of presidential records, those of the central administrative organs and those in special media (AV, administrative material). Moreover, the Exhibition Hall of the Nara Repository provides citizens in general with on-site education programs.
