This house, whose gross area amounts to some 650㎡, is the original
house of the Hansan Yi Clan. They say about 70 houses were around this house,
among which the Hansan Yi Clan occupied some 30 ones, forming a small
village. Most of them were destroyed or burned down during the Korean War
and restored later. Unfortunately though, their original shapes are hard to
imagine due to the severe damage. Four of them including the original house,
however, were fortunate enough to avoid the war damage to some extent. They
maintain their original shapes to this day after times of restoration. |
The house located inside the Joongang Park is typical of the rural
houses of the late Joseon Dynasty in Gyeonggi Province. Here you can find some
remains of a pavilion, too. It is said that teachings had been delivered and village
seniors had gathered together until right after the liberation of Korea when it
was dismantled. They also say the shape of the mountains surrounding this
willage was like a turtle and some people dug a pond at the head part of the
imagined turtle to enable others to drink some water here. The arrangement of
the house in general is that of a typical one having been built in the mid-Korean
peninsula, incorporating straightforward servants' quarters and a main room
stretching in two directions from on corner. |
