Namhansanseong Mountain Fortress is located across Seongnam, Gwangju and Hanam while the
interior of the fortress belongs to Jungbu-myeon, Gwangju City. Divided into the main fortress and outer fortress, the 9.05km-round,
3m to 7.5m-high fortress has 4 gates, 5 bastions, 16 emergency gates, 2 signal-fire
stations and 7 temples. Though 5 commanding podia are said to have originally existed, only the western one
called Sueojangdae Podium has survived until now. It's said that there were 125 barracks, 45 ponds and 8
water mills inside the fortress. This is a historic place in that Korean ancestors resisted the invading army here
for 45 days during the Manchu War of 1636.
